Ruth Stern Warzecha comes from a family of sofrim (ritual scribes) and craftsmen. Naturally talented, she has a great love of lettering. Ruth continues to learn new techniques and evolve as an artist. Since making her first ketubah in 1975, she has done hundreds of ketubahs and other Judaica. Over the years, she has taken master classes with some of the world's finest calligraphy teachers and in Israel, she studied the art of the religious scribe. In addition, she taught calligraphy for ten years.
Ruth is versed in numerous Hebrew and English lettering styles, layout and design. She also specializes in gilding with gold leaf and both traditional and modern illuminating. She works on paper, manuscript vellum, canvas and sandblasted glass. (Unfortunately, glass commissions cannot be shipped.) The art of papercutting is a particular favorite. Here, Ruth combines traditional folk and sophisticated techniques to create unique pieces. Most of Ruth's work is commissioned by private clients with some pieces done for Judaica galleries, exhibits, retailers, schools and Jewish organizations.
